The Saturday Morning Home Repair Blog (SMHRB) is where we gather to discuss the many and varied aspects of home repair. Some here are trained professionals. Some, talented DIYers. Some, hopeless thumb-hammerers. All are welcome. Please feel encouraged to ask questions, share successes, lament sags, drips and cracks and, as always, share any advice that you have for the rest of us.
first off I checked the schedule & no one had taken this morning @ 7:00pm Friday night.
I was getting ready to try again to install a fan in my bedroom. So I figured I'd have some fun.
2 weeks ago I got moved into the master bedroom of the Blue House which is a double wide. after a few nights I knew I needed a ceiling fan. I went to Lowes & bought one.
there was nothing to hang it from ! here is the ceiling light box !
2 weeks ago I was stumped.
I've been thinking of how I can hang the fan.
so !
tonight I took it apart & I felt up inside the ceiling. I could feel something each way about 8". I went to the scrap steel pile. I picked up this piece of tubing.
It went in easy. I stood on the ground under the hole, reached in, grabbed the tubing & lifted my weigh onto the tubing, I weigh 220#. It passed !
so I started getting the stuff to complete the job.
I drilled some holes
then I welded those steel jam nuts
I wanted something to keep the box flush with the drywall
then I welded those in place.
now I'm ready to try and install this contraption
so I cut the hole square
I used 7" pieces of all thread so I could start the bolts. There was a lot of cussing at this point !
but I got it done :=)
then I tested the wiring.
I found I made a mistake when I put the wire nuts on the wires.
I fixed the problem & then assembled the fan.
I'm ready to see if I sleep better under this very quiet fan tonight.
